LEAFCS Collaboration

In late April, I participated in the LEAFCS Annual Conference held at the LSU AgCenter Rural Economic Development Center in Oak Grove and made a presentation on the Importance of Collaboration in developing programs in Extension.

The Family and Consumer Sciences faculty and administrative leadership are to be commended for prioritizing programs and focusing on nutrition and health, family financial management, and parenting and child care.

These three program areas address critical societal needs and offer many opportunities for collaboration with other institutions, agencies and groups with common interests at both the state and local levels. Through successful collaborative efforts, FCS faculty in the state office received over $2.5 million in 2003-2004 in external funding and field faculty received $115,160. The total approaches $3 million in the current fiscal year. These external funds are used to enhance FCS priority programs. Administration appreciates the initiative of FCS faculty in seeking external funds and recognizes the importance of the cooperation and involvement of field faculty and administrators in implementing and evaluating the programs. Both internal and external collaborative efforts are necessary to conduct programs that have an impact in improving the lives of Louisiana's citizens.
