006003 ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR - SCHOOL OF ANIMAL SCIENCE

Assistant/Associate Professor

WORK LOCATION: School of Animal Sciences and College of Agriculture, Louisiana State University Agricultural Center, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Animal Breeding and Genetics. The School of Animal Sciences is seeking an Animal Scientist at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This is a tenure track position; 70% research, 30% teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independent research program addressing fundamentally important questions in the area of breeding and genetics of cattle. The applicant must have basic population and quantitative genetics training and either be exposed to or trained in genomics from a data analysis standpoint and incorporation of DNA data in selection programs to improve quantitative characteristics of animals. The applicant will be expected to conduct research appropriate for publication in refereed journals, attract extramural funding and participate in collaborative research within the School of Animal Sciences, across the LSU system and with other outside entities, and participate in university committees, and advise students. Teaching expectations include undergraduate and graduate courses in genetics and animal breeding and shared responsibility for other departmental courses. The school has the land and facilities for a 400-500 beef cattle cow herd and 100 head dairy herd.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A Ph.D. in Animal Science or closely related field with specialization in animal breeding and genetics is required. Teaching experience is highly desirable, and the successful candidate must be able to effectively communicate with undergraduates, graduate students, clientele groups, and professionals. Preference will be given to candidates with postdoctoral and/or practical domestic animal experience and a clear potential, or demonstrated accomplishments in research, teaching, and grantsmanship.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options.
