The focus of all 4-H programs is the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens. The National 4-H Shooting Sports Program stands out as an example. Youth learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery, and much more. The activities of the program and the support of caring adult leaders provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth, and conservation ethics.

Daisy and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are hosting a contest for youth ages 10-18 to produce a video, telling them about how being a safe and ethical hunter or shooter, being in the outdoors and conserving or appreciating wild game and nature has made a big impact on your life.

2008 Shooting Sports Handbook
The goal of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program is youth development. Through participation in firearm safety training and shooting sports activities, young men and women are given the opportunity to learn responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and other qualities critical to the development of productive citizens. This handbook deals with 4-H Shooting Sports only.
